Happy New Year
“Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born.”
I
For two days, from the last day of the past year to the first day of this year; my hard guy persona- forged in metal and stone was on the verge of breaking. It seemed as if my tear ducts were in great danger of secreting tears.
It wasn't unplanned. The cause was obvious.
II
I received messages- wishing me a happy new year and saying kind things about our shared friendship in the past year.
I do not take your kind words for granted. I appreciate all your beautiful texts.
It's important to state that I value and cherish every bit of our friendship.
The past year was fraught with a pandemic, leading to extended periods of lockdown. We have the internet- this simple or complex interconnection of networks to thank for keeping our communication constant.
The Internet and by extension- social media was merely a medium. The will to call, text, record voice notes was present.
Without the will, the media would have remained mere media.
III
In previous years, I maintained a stoic disposition to the beginning of a new year.
2021 will be different.
Emotions are valid. It's okay to be vulnerable. It's okay to cry. It's okay not to know the next step. But it is not okay not to try.
So, in this new year- Try.
For all of us who have groundbreaking dreams to achieve. Just put in the efforts.
I'm inclined to use a Bible reference here.
That the creator (universe if you prefer) who sees in secret will reward you openly.
IV
Beyond trying, show kindness. It's what has seen us through the past year's moments of upheaval.
Be Kind. Be Kind.
May 2021 be our best year ever. May the forces be with us. May the odds be in our favour.
Welcome to another 365 day trip round the sun.
I love you all.
